Cyberbullying Is Not Free Speech, California Court Rules

pOnline threats of violence and acts of cyber-bullying are not protected free speech. That's according to a California appeals court that upheld a decision from a lower court, allowing a hate crimes and defamation suit (PDF) to continue. The case dates back to 2005, when a then 15-year-old student at a private high school in Los Angeles launched a personal Web page to promote his pursuit of a film and singing career.

LA Thief Steals Truck As 5-Year-Old Sleeps Inside (VIDEO)

pLOS ANGELES mdash; (AP) California authorities say a thief in the Hollywood Hills stole a truck with a 5-year-old boy sleeping inside but the child was found safely soon after./p

pLos Angeles police spokeswoman Sara Faden says the boy's mother stepped out of the truck Friday morning to throw something in a roadside trash can when a suspect stepped into the driver's seat and drove away./p
pThe boy and truck were found unharmed a half-hour later about a mile away./p

pPolice are looking for the suspect but they don't have a description of the person./p

Carl Icahn Launches Hostile Bid For Lions Gate

pNEW YORK mdash; Activist shareholder Carl Icahn raised the stakes in his yearlong dispute with Lions Gate Entertainment Corp. on Friday, launching an all-out bid to take over the movie studio following disagreements over its spending./p

pThe hostile bid comes a week after Lions Gate rejected Icahn's offer to buy a larger stake and rewrote its bylaws to make such a takeover attempt more difficult in the future./p
pIcahn owns almost 19 percent of Lions Gate, and his tender offer of $6 a share last month would have raised his stake to nearly 30 percent.
